Overview

The University of Reading has been at the forefront of UK higher education for nearly a century. Over the decades, it has become an innovator and pioneer, pushing academic boundaries and leading social change. Its four guiding principles form the foundation of its strategy: a genuine love of learning, creating new knowledge, embracing and celebrating the diversity of people and ideas, and caring for the environment.

The University of Reading was founded in 1892 and received its Royal Charter in 1926. The main campus, Whiteknights, is situated close to Reading town centre and hosts more than 23,000 students from over 160 different countries.

The University of Reading has been in the top 20% of world institutions for ten years (QS World University Rankings 2015 - 2025). They offer a wide range of programmes from the pure and applied sciences to languages, humanities, social sciences, business and arts

The University is also known for its many partnerships with overseas universities and institutions, from student exchanges to research collaborations. Its award-winning campuses—in Reading, Henley-upon-Thames, South Africa, and Malaysia—house contemporary study facilities, halls of residence, support services, cafes, and bars.

Services for International Students

Reading offers free courses to enhance English language and academic skills and a Pre-sessional English programme for those who wish to improve their English or have not achieved the required level.
