The University of Hull was formed in 1927, making us the 14th oldest university in England. With a proud history of academic excellence and of creating and inspiring life-changing research, the university offers the perfect combination of heritage and high technology, setting us apart from most other universities.
Hull was named the UK’s most affordable student city in the Natwest Student Living Index, and a single-site campus contains everything you need. The university invested £200 million in new facilities including a world-class library, a superb health campus, a state-of-the-art concert hall, on-campus student accommodation and new sports facilities.
An impressive 97.9% of international students at Hull go into work or further study within six months of graduating, according to the Higher Education Statistics Agency.
Hull is incredibly ambitious about its research agenda. The university takes on the big global challenges – from health to habitats, from food to flooding and from supply chains to slavery. Our seven research institutes are a hub; bringing together expertise from all corners of the university. They form a focus point where our researchers work with key partners and stakeholders to deliver research that benefits everyone, and shapes and informs future policy.
The International Office at Hull provides all international students with pre-arrival information about visa applications. International Welcome Week consists of multiple talks and events, designed to help students settle in, get to know the university campus and staff, and set up bank accounts, mobile phone contracts, and other such things.
Once the term is fully underway, international students can partake in Go Connect, which aims to form links between British and international students in the region and join the International Students’ Association.
In the REF 2021, Hull is one of the highest climbers – increasing its overall ranking by 17 places from 72nd (REF 2014) to 55th (joint). For research impact, the University has climbed 23 places to 42 (from joint 65th in 2014). 82% of its research is recognised as world-leading or internationally excellent.
Students on the main Hull campus can choose between catered or self-catered rooms in University accommodation. These range from traditional halls of residence on campus to university-owned houses in the area. Also available are privately rented accommodation in the city proper, which has some of the cheapest housing in the country. In Scarborough, students also have the choice of catered or self-catered accommodation with private options available throughout their studies.
First-year students who apply by the deadline are guaranteed a place in University accommodation.
Hull's location – roughly halfway between London and Edinburgh – on the east coast of the UK, puts the university within striking distance of most parts of the UK. Served by Humberside Airport and Hull Paragon Station, Hull is a well connected city, offering daily flights to mainland Europe and direct train journeys to London (2.5 hours) and Manchester (2 hours).
At Hull, you will find everything you need to study, live and socialise - from versatile workspaces to an award-winning careers service – all on one site. An award-winning student union – with more than 150 societies and sports clubs – and the Student Support Team – which provides advice on issues including health and wellbeing, visas and immigration, and learning support – will ensure that you get the most out of everything the university has to offer.
